ANN ARBOR, Mich. — The Michigan Islamic Academy will add
eight new classrooms and a gymnasium in a $1.8 million construction program,
according to AnnArbor.com. The private K-12 school currently enrolls
approximately 200 students, the report said.
The Muslim Community Association of Ann Arbor has completed
one capital campaign to fund the improvements and another is planned,
AnnArbor.com reported. The new building, scheduled to open in fall of 2011,
will replace eight temporary classrooms being rented in area office buildings.
"Everyone is very happy with the plans," Tarek
Nahlawi, a member of the school board, told AnnArbor.com. "It will allow
for a much better flow for the students and a nicer environment."
The community is hoping the new facility will attract more
families to the school from the local area, according to AnnArbor.com.
