DETROIT - Two former Detroit Public Schools employees accused of defrauding the district of $400,000 in a payroll scam pled guilty in federal court, according to The Detroit News.
The original indictment accused Toni D. Gilbert, a former payroll manager, of issuing payroll checks totaling more than $400,000 to Anton V. Carter after Carter retired from the district due to a disability, according to The News. Carter then shared the money with Gilbert, the report said. Carter also was receiving disability checks, The News reported.
The pair will be sentenced June 1, according to the report.
