MANCELONA, Mich. - A northern Michigan man who teaches high school in one school district and is a school board member in another has been arrested on charges of third-degree criminal sexual conduct, according to local media.
The suspect, Frank E. Moser, is a teacher at Forest Area High School and also a member of the Mancelona Board of Education, the Record Eagle said. Moser allegedly had sexual intercourse with a 17-year-old Forest Area female student at his home.
Moser was charged under a 2007 state law that makes it a criminal act for a teacher to have sexual contact with students, according to The Leader & Kalkaskian. The school district has placed him on indefinite paid administrative leave and an arraignment is pending, both papers reported. State police told media that the teacher has cooperated with their investigation.
"I was very shocked to hear the news," Ron Nurnberger, Mancelona's interim superintendent, told The Leader & Kalkaskian. "Regardless of the outcome, Frank was an open-minded board member and very involved in the community with the Mancelona Educational Foundation. He also had indicated an aspiration to become a school principal in the future."
